Supporting S4-S6 learners during school closures
With some schools closed due to adverse weather conditions, S4 – S6 learners studying towards National Qualifications might be worried about missing a day of learning. As part of their remote learning, teachers may direct students to Scholar.
Q – How do learners log in?
A – Young people who use Glow can access Scholar by adding the Scholar tile to their Glow Launch Pad, or by visiting scholar.hw.ac.uk and choosing the ‘Log in with Glow’ option on our log in page: https://scholar.hw.ac.uk/login. Alternatively, learners can log in using their unique Scholar credentials, obtainable from their teachers.
Q – Which courses can learners access?
A – Although learners will see their timetabled courses on their Scholar ‘Courses’ page, they can access any of our 42 courses by selecting the ‘Display other courses’ toggle. Our list of courses is available here: https://scholar.hw.ac.uk/available-courses
Q – Will teachers be able to see whether learners have accessed the relevant content?
A – Teachers will be able to access reports which show the content learners have accessed as well as the results of any assessments taken.
Q – How will learners remember which content they have accessed, and where they left off on their Scholar course/s?
A – Learners can access their own reports which show the content they have accessed, and the results of any assessments taken. The next time they log into Scholar, they will be able to use the ‘Resume’ button to return to the exact web page they were on before they last logged off.
Q – How can learners be confident that the learning they undertake within Scholar is useful and relevant to their National Qualification/s?
A – Scholar’s courses are written by experienced teachers and lecturers who have delivered SQA qualifications. The courses are SQA-aligned, so young people can trust that the content they access is useful and highly relevant to their studies.
