Accessibility statement for Scholar

This accessibility statement applies to, a website is run by Scholar, Heriot-Watt University. While some content is publicly available, access to most of the learning materials requires an account.

Scholar wants the widest possible audience to be able to use its resources and services.

For example, this means that you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen on our public pages, visible prior to logging in
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software (tested using LipSurf)
  • listen to much of the website using a screen reader (tested using ChromeVox, NVDA)
  • make use of close captions in our ‘Using Scholar’ videos
  • use a suitable text equivalent for most images in course content
  • use the ‘Alternative’ toggle to replace animations within course materials with static, more accessible alternatives
  • download PDF versions of our course materials as alternatives to on-screen, interactive versions

My Computer My Way has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
