SCHOLAR Conference 2011 – Workshop Information Preview
This year, SCHOLAR offered four workshops in one afternoon session. The workshops allowed delegates to choose activities that are suited to their own background and experience but explore new possibilities in delivering teaching to provide and enhance pupils’ learning. All workshops featured presentations and questions from the audience and questions to the audience.
The information below gives an indication of title, content and the intended audience.
Afternoon Sessions
- Innovative delivery of Highers and Advanced Highers
This workshop was aimed at Education Authority staff, School Managers and Teachers. Experiences of SCHOLAR Hubs in Scottish Borders Council/Borders College and Dundee was shared. Participants were able to explore how such a facility can enable the retention of a broad curriculum in an Authority’s schools and colleges against the financially challenging environment.
The following workshops will demonstrate how the SCHOLAR online materials, new features and functionality can be used to enhance the teaching and learning experience using the full range of facilities of the SCHOLAR programme.
- Showcase SCHOLAR - Languages
The facilities within SCHOLAR using online audio built into the learning and assessment materials brings a new dimension to language teaching.

Exemplars of Lesson Plans from Higher French, German and Spanish were provided.
- Showcase SCHOLAR - new CfE Sciences
The new Highers in Biology, Chemistry and Physics are being introduced in 2011/12. SCHOLAR demonstrated the materials being developed for the new syllabus.
Exemplars of Lesson Plans from Higher Biology, Higher Human Biology, Chemistry and Physics were provided.
- Showcase SCHOLAR - Business and Psychology
The uptake of Business Management and other cognate subjects is increasing year on year. The interactivities create a lively experience within the classroom and enhance learning at home where students can study at their own pace.
